SPA Bhopal Introduces Integrated B.Plan–M.Plan Dual Degree Programme

Bhopal — In a bold academic stride aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Bhopal, has unveiled an innovative Integrated B.Plan–M.Plan Dual Degree Programme, poised to redefine urban planning education in India.

A Future-Forward Initiative

The five-year dual degree programme, commencing from the 2025 academic session, offers a unique combination of undergraduate and postgraduate training in urban and regional planning. It also allows flexible exits after four years with a B.Plan degree, reflecting NEP’s ethos of choice-based education.

SPA Bhopal’s new offering is tailored to meet the surging demand for qualified urban and regional planners, especially as 65% of Indian cities reportedly lack adequate planning frameworks. With estimates indicating a national shortfall of over 8,000 town planning professionals, this programme aims to fill a critical skills gap.

Program Highlights:

• Specializations available: MURP (Urban and Regional Planning), MEP (Environmental Planning), and MPTLM (Transport & Logistics Management).

• Interdisciplinary Majors in Climate Change, Urban Analytics, Traditional Knowledge Systems, Transport & Logistics, and Planning Theory & Policy.

• Industry-relevant electives, internships, workshops, and research-based learning throughout the curriculum.

• Multiple entry and exit points ensure academic flexibility and vocational empowerment.

Curriculum Anchored in Innovation

With electives starting from the fourth semester, students can tailor their academic journey toward specific interests. The curriculum includes cutting-edge tools like machine learning, spatial data analytics, and UAV & advanced surveying, equipping students with a futuristic skill set.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is accessible to students from Science, Commerce, and Humanities backgrounds, with Mathematics as a compulsory subject. Admissions will be conducted through JEE Main Paper 2B, with sessions scheduled for January and April 2025.
